Amazonite is prized for its captivating color ranging from light green to turquoise blue, and has been considered for centuries as a stone of well-being and harmony. It’s associated with joy of living, emotional serenity, and sincere communication.

🌍 Origin and discovery of amazonite

Contrary to what its name might suggest, amazonite doesn’t come directly from the Amazon River. The name was reportedly given in the 17th century, inspired by the legend of the Amazon warrior women who wore, it’s said, green stones as protective talismans. However, no deposits have been discovered there.

Amazonite is actually an aluminum and potassium silicate, belonging to the feldspar family. It’s found mainly in Russia (in the Ural Mountains), the United States, Brazil, Madagascar, Canada, and more recently, Ethiopia.

Since ancient times, amazonite was used as an ornamental and protective stone. Amazonite jewelry and objects have been found in Egyptian pharaohs’ tombs, including Tutankhamun’s. The Egyptians associated it with the goddess Maat, symbol of truth and balance.

According to ancient beliefs, it also served as an amulet against evil spirits and negative energies. In South America, certain pre-Columbian civilizations used it during spiritual rituals to invoke inner peace and strengthen the connection between heart and speech.

In crystal healing, amazonite is associated with the following properties:

Purification and recharging:

Cleansing:

Amazonite can be purified by briefly rinsing it under water. However, since the stone contains traces of lead, it’s not recommended to leave it soaking in water.

To preserve the stone’s brilliance and color, we recommend purifying it by smudging with a palo santo stick or white sage. Burn the palo santo or sage and pass your jewelry through the smoke released. Don’t forget to ventilate the room well after smudging.

Recharging:

Amazonite can be recharged in sunlight by placing it for a few hours in a room bathed in light. It’s best to avoid direct and prolonged exposure to sunlight which could damage the stone.

Amazonite can also be placed in a quartz geode, on a quartz cluster, or a selenite plate.
