In ancient Greece and Rome, carnelian was often worn as a talisman for good luck.

In the Middle Ages, warriors often adorned themselves with carnelian to gain courage on battlefields and protect themselves from illness.

Saint Hildegard of Bingen used carnelian as a healing stone. She described its effects on headaches, bleeding, and calming the mind.

Purification and recharging:

Purification:

Carnelian can be purified by rinsing it under water for a few minutes. You can also purify it by fumigation with a palo santo stick or with white sage. Burn the palo santo or sage and pass the crystal through the smoke. Remember to ventilate the room well after fumigation.

Recharging:

Carnelian can be recharged by placing it in the sun for a few hours.

If the crystal is small, it can also be placed in a quartz geode, on a quartz cluster, or an amethyst druse.
