Amazonite is prized for its captivating color, ranging from light green to turquoise blue. For centuries, it has been considered a stone of well-being and harmony. It is associated with the joy of life, emotional serenity, and sincere communication.

🌍 Origin and discovery of amazonite

Contrary to what its name might suggest, amazonite does not come directly from the Amazon River. The name was reportedly attributed to it in the 17th century, inspired by the legend of the Amazon warrior women who were said to wear green stones as protective talismans. However, no deposits have been discovered there.

Amazonite is actually an aluminum and potassium silicate, belonging to the feldspar family. It is mainly found in Russia (in the Ural Mountains), the United States, Brazil, Madagascar, Canada, and more recently, Ethiopia.

Since antiquity, amazonite has been used as an ornamental and protective stone. Amazonite jewelry and objects have been found in the tombs of Egyptian pharaohs, including Tutankhamun. The Egyptians associated it with the goddess Maat, a symbol of truth and balance.

According to ancient beliefs, it also served as an amulet against evil spirits and negative energies. In South America, some pre-Columbian civilizations used it in spiritual rituals to invoke inner peace and strengthen the connection between the heart and speech.

Purification and recharging:

Cleansing:

Amazonite can be purified by briefly rinsing it under water. However, as the stone contains traces of lead, it is not recommended to let it soak in water.

To preserve the stone’s brilliance and color, we recommend purifying it by fumigation with a palo santo stick or white sage. Burn the palo santo or sage and pass your jewelry through the smoke. Remember to ventilate the room well after fumigation.

Recharging:

Amazonite can be recharged in sunlight by placing it for a few hours in a brightly lit room. It is best to avoid direct and prolonged exposure to sunlight, which could damage the stone.

Amazonite can also be placed in a quartz geode, on a quartz cluster, or a selenite plate.
