Larvikite comes from the city of “Larvik” in Norway, where its main deposits are found. The formation process of larvikite takes millions of years.

Larvikite is an igneous rock of the monzonite type. It forms at a depth of about 30km and crystallizes near the surface in sub-volcanic zones. It is a relatively hard rock, which explains its versatile use, both for decorative purposes and as a building material. The presence of labradorite feldspar gives it its bluish/silvery-grey iridescence. The colors appear to change and shimmer when the stone is viewed from different angles or under different lights: this is called labradorescence.

It is a protective stone that dissolves negative energies. Associated with the earth, it promotes grounding in the present moment. It helps heal emotional wounds and make decisions guided by logic and reason. As a grounding stone, larvikite can be associated with onyx, lava stone, and tourmaline.

Purification and recharging:

Cleansing:

Larvikite can be purified by soaking it in water for a few minutes. However, to preserve the elastic of bracelets/the jewelry setting, we recommend fumigation with a palo santo stick or with white sage. Burn the palo santo or sage and pass your jewelry through the smoke. Remember to ventilate the room well after fumigation.

Recharging:

Larvikite can be recharged by placing it in the sun for a few hours, preferably when the rays are less intense.

Larvikite can also be placed in a quartz geode, on a quartz cluster or an amethyst druse.
