In ancient times, the Greeks wore sunstone as a bracelet or pendant to attract luck and prosperity.

In Viking legends, sunstone was revered. It was said that those who wore a sunstone would reach Valhalla.

Sunstone is also said to have helped Vikings navigate at sea. It supposedly allowed them to locate the sun on cloudy or foggy days.

It possesses a specific optical property called birefringence. All light passing through the stone is split in two, much like prisms that decompose color.

Despite this optical property, it is difficult to physically verify its use for navigation. Researchers have conducted thousands of computer simulations where mathematical algorithms play the role of Viking ships. The simulation predicts overcast weather and the use of sunstone. In 92 to 100% of cases, crews reach their destination by using the sunstone every three hours to find their bearings.

Sunstone symbolizes joy of living and optimism. It radiates good humor and cheerfulness, and stimulates vital energy. It is the stone of action, ideal if you have a tendency toward procrastination.

Purification and recharging

Cleansing:

Sunstone can be purified by soaking it for a few hours in demineralized water. No salt. To preserve the elastic of our bracelets, we recommend purification by smudging with a palo santo stick or with white sage. Burn the palo santo or sage and pass the stone through the smoke. Don’t forget to ventilate the room well after smudging.

Recharging:

Sunstone recharges in sunlight. You can leave it for a few hours in a room bathed in light.

It can also be placed in a quartz geode, on a quartz cluster or an amethyst druse.
