💗 Thulite – Stone of compassion, expression and inner renewal

➤ Origin & deposits

Discovered in 1820 in Sauland in the Telemark region of Norway, thulite takes its name from the mythical island of Thule, mentioned since Antiquity as the edge of the northern world. It is a variety of zoisite enriched with manganese, which gives it its beautiful pink to bright purple hues.

It is found mainly in Norway, but also sometimes in Australia, Brazil, Namibia, the United States, Portugal and more rarely in France.

➤ Formation & geology

Thulite forms in pegmatites or fractures of metamorphic rocks, resulting from the alteration of triphylite. Its intense pink-red hue, sometimes marbled with white, comes from manganese inclusions

The name “thulite” refers to the island of Thule, mentioned by the Greek navigator Pytheas (330 BC) as the extreme place of the North — a symbol of mystery, distant horizon, renewal.

Although rarely present in mythological tales, thulite carries within it the soul of Nordic landscapes: a stone born from the silence of mountains and frozen lands, which warms the heart like a gentle light in winter. It embodies the connection between inner strength and sincere expression, inviting us to speak from the heart and to love with truth.

According to certain oral traditions, thulite was prized by the ancient Vikings, who considered it a stone of courage, inner strength and protection. It was worn as an amulet during sea expeditions or battles, to protect the warrior from physical dangers but also from inner doubts. A symbol of determination and clarity of mind, it accompanied Nordic travelers in their quest for unknown lands, while strengthening their connection to home and true speech.

• Thulite can be cleansed by smudging with a palo santo stick or with white sage. Burn the palo santo or sage and pass your jewelry or stone through the smoke released. Don’t forget to ventilate the room well after smudging.

• Avoid immersion in water due to its fragility

• In indirect moonlight, a few hours
• In morning light or indirect light (room bathed in light)
• In a quartz geode or on a selenite plate
• With gentle massage, thulite also recharges through contact with benevolent emotions
