Calcite is a mineral from the carbonate family, composed mainly of calcium carbonate (CaCO₃). It can take various crystalline forms, and its color varies depending on impurities, ranging from white to yellow, blue, green, or even pink. Its hardness (3 on the Mohs scale) and its solubility in acids (like hydrochloric acid) are two of its most characteristic properties.

The use of calcite by ancient civilizations dates back several millennia. In ancient Egypt, calcite (in the form of selenite, a translucent variety) was primarily used in the manufacture of vases and statues. It can also be purified by fumigation with a palo santo stick or white sage. Burn the palo santo or sage and pass your stone/jewelry through the smoke produced. Remember to ventilate the room well after fumigation.

Recharging:

Calcite can be recharged in sunlight. It can also be placed in a quartz geode or on a quartz cluster (druse).
