Hematite is one of the most widespread minerals. Most of its production comes from Brazil. Although it’s black to silvery gray, hematite is considered a red stone. Hematite is an iron oxide. It’s also called the “blood stone” because it turns the cooling water red when it’s cut.

It was already used in prehistoric times. Cave paintings were made using ground hematite.

Because of its high iron content, hematite was long used by doctors to treat certain blood diseases. However, scientists and doctors have not been able to confirm that hematite can heal.

In Ayurvedic medicine, hematite is traditionally used in cases of anemia and menorrhagia.

Albertus Magnus, a renowned 13th-century scholar, wrote that hematite had strong astringent power and could treat anemia and certain eye diseases.

Hematite is a stone of grounding, of connection to reality. It invites you to listen to yourself and to others. It helps build self-confidence and overcome problems. It’s the go-to stone for shy people.

In crystal healing, hematite is considered an anti-fatigue and anti-stress stone. Hematite is associated with jobs that require strong listening skills: social work, medical professions, lawyers.

Hematite is associated with the Root Chakra. Spiritually, hematite is a very Yang stone. It rebalances energy when there’s too much Yin energy. It dispels negative energies to restore peace and harmony in the body.

Cleansing:

Hematite can be cleansed by soaking it in salt water for a few minutes. However, to preserve the bracelet elastic/the jewelry setting, we recommend smudging instead with a palo santo stick or white sage. Light the palo santo or sage and pass your jewelry over the smoke. Don’t forget to air out the room well after smudging.

Recharging:

Hematite can be recharged by placing it in the sun.

Cleansing:

Tiger’s eye can be purified by soaking it in water. To preserve the jewelry’s setting, we instead recommend fumigation with a palo santo stick or with white sage. Burn the palo santo or sage and pass your jewelry through the resulting smoke. Don’t forget to air out the room well after fumigating.

Recharging:

Tiger’s eye can be recharged in the sun or by placing it in a quartz geode, on a quartz cluster or an amethyst druse. You can also use a flower of life plate.
