Origin and formation of printed jasper

Printed jasper, also called polychrome jasper, is a silica-rich variety of jasper belonging to the large family of microcrystalline quartz. It owes its unique patterns to the presence of clay, iron, or manganese impurities that deposited over time in the stone during its formation. Ancient writings mention jasper, but the different names were attributed fairly recently. Polychrome jasper was discovered in Madagascar in 2006.

Deposits of printed jasper are found mainly in Mexico, the United States, Brazil, and sometimes in Madagascar. Each piece is unique, almost like a canvas painted by nature itself.

Purification and recharging:

Cleansing:

Printed jasper can be purified by soaking it in water for a few minutes. It can also be purified by fumigation with a palo santo stick or white sage. Burn the palo santo or sage and pass the jasper through the smoke released. Don’t forget to ventilate the room well after fumigation.

Recharging:

Jasper can be recharged in soft sunlight or moonlight. It can also be placed in a quartz geode or on a quartz cluster (druse).
