In ancient Egypt, peridot was nicknamed the “sun stone”. It was highly prized by Queen Cleopatra, who owned a vast collection of peridot jewelry.

Peridot is mentioned in the Bible. It’s one of the stones that adorned Aaron’s breastplate.

After the Crusades, peridot was brought back to Europe and used as ornamental decoration in many churches.
