Heliotrope quartz, better known as bloodstone, is a variety of chalcedony (microcrystalline quartz) recognizable by its dark green color speckled with red spots. These inclusions give it a unique look that evokes splashes of blood—hence its evocative name.

Its main deposits are found in India, Brazil, Madagascar, Australia, and the United States.
Since Antiquity, heliotrope has been considered a protective and revitalizing stone. In medieval Christian tradition, its red inclusions were thought to represent drops of Christ’s blood, making it a sacred stone.
