This stone primarily crystallizes in geodes or rock veins, sometimes over several million years, before being carefully extracted.

The trapiche pattern forms during crystal growth when impurities or interruptions in the crystallization process cause a separation into sectors, creating this star or ray pattern. This phenomenon is very rare and specific to certain geological conditions.

Its name comes from the Greek “amethystos,” meaning “not intoxicated”. Greeks believed the stone protected against drunkenness and excess, sometimes drinking wine from amethyst-carved cups. It was also associated with Dionysus, the god of wine and ecstasy.

The most famous legend comes from Greek mythology:
Dionysus, vexed by a human insult, decided to take revenge by unleashing tigers on the first person he encountered. This person was Amethystos, a pious young girl, protected by the goddess Artemis who transformed her into a quartz statue to save her. Remorseful, Dionysus poured wine over the statue, thus giving it its violet color.

This story established the belief that amethyst protects against intoxication, but also against uncontrolled passions, negative thoughts, and illusions.

Purification and recharging:

Cleansing:

Amethyst can be purified by soaking it in water for a few minutes. To preserve the bracelet’s elastic, we recommend purification by fumigation with a palo santo stick or white sage. Burn the palo santo or sage and pass your jewelry through the smoke. Remember to ventilate the room well after fumigation.

Recharging:

Amethyst can be recharged by placing it in moonlight for a few hours. It can also be placed in a quartz geode or on a selenite plate. Caution! Prolonged exposure of amethyst to the sun is not recommended. Amethyst is sensitive to strong light and intense heat, which can alter the stone’s color.
