Hematite is one of the most common minerals. The majority of its production comes from Brazil. Although it is black to silvery-gray in color, hematite is considered a red stone. Hematite is an iron oxide. It is also called ‘bloodstone’ because it colors cooling water red when cut.

It was already used during prehistory. Cave paintings were made using crushed hematite.

Due to its high iron content, hematite was long used by doctors to treat certain blood diseases. However, scientists and doctors have not been able to confirm that hematite can cure illnesses.

In Ayurvedic medicine, hematite is traditionally used in cases of anemia and menorrhagia.

Albert the Great, a renowned 13th-century professor, wrote that hematite had strong astringent power and could treat anemia and certain eye diseases.

Hematite is an anchoring stone, connecting you to reality. It encourages you to listen to yourself and to others. It helps you gain self-confidence and overcome your problems. It is the perfect stone for shy people.

In lithotherapy, hematite is considered a fatigue-reducing and anti-stress stone. Hematite is associated with professions that require great listening skills: social work, medical professionals, lawyers.

Hematite is associated with the Root Chakra. Spiritually, hematite is a very Yang stone. It reharmonizes energetic balances when they are dominated by too much Yin energy. It dissipates negative energies to restore peace and harmony to the body.

Cleansing:

Hematite can be purified by soaking it in salt water for a few minutes. However, to preserve the elastic of bracelets/the setting of jewelry, we recommend fumigation with a palo santo stick or with white sage. Burn the palo santo or sage and pass your jewelry over the smoke produced. Don’t forget to ventilate the room well after fumigation.

Recharging:

Hematite can be recharged by placing it in the sun.

It can also be placed in a quartz geode, on a selenite plate or an amethyst druse.
