Tourmaline is a borosilicate with a wide range of colors: black, green, blue, yellow, pink, red. The name tourmaline is of Sinhalese origin (Sri Lanka) and means “stone of a thousand colors.” Tourmaline arrived late on the European continent. It was only cataloged by mineralogists in the 18th century.

It was imported from Ceylon to Holland for cutting starting in 1703. In China, Empress Tzu Hsi, who ruled from 1860 to 1908, exported pink tourmalines from Southern California. She particularly appreciated tourmalines and had many jewels and decorative objects made from them.

Later, in Minas Gerais, Brazil, tourmalines of all colors were found. Paraíba tourmaline, with its extraordinary lagoon blue color, is one of the rarest and most sought-after tourmalines.

In lithotherapy, black tourmaline is considered one of the most powerful protection stones. It is believed to protect against negative people and influences and is also used to protect living spaces.

Black tourmaline is a stone of stability and grounding. Associated with the Root Chakra, it helps inconsistent people find a more stable lifestyle. It promotes balance and strengthens self-confidence and a sense of peace and security.

Tourmaline promotes centering and energy balance. It stimulates vitality and strengthens self-control.

Lithotherapists also believe that black tourmaline protects against static electricity and radio waves. It can thus be placed on the household electricity meter, near a computer or television screen, or generally near any electrical device producing waves.

Blue Tourmaline activates the throat and third eye chakras. It is believed to stimulate creativity and intuition. It helps dissipate sadness and emotional blockages. Energy therapists particularly appreciate this stone, which is said to prevent negativity from clinging.

Paraíba Tourmaline is said to have the same energetic properties as blue tourmaline, but with greater power.

Green Tourmaline is associated with the heart chakra. It promotes patience and compassion. Like all green stones, it is believed to help calm the mind and promote sleep.

Pink Tourmaline is the stone associated with love. It is said to attract love. It encourages self-acceptance and dissipates emotional pain. It is also the stone of inner peace and relaxation.

Watermelon Tourmaline combines the properties of green and pink tourmaline. It is associated with the heart chakra. It is said to reduce anxiety and support change and renewal.

Yellow Tourmaline invites spiritual reflection. It stimulates the solar plexus chakra. It is conducive to business and new projects.

Red Tourmaline or rubellite is a stone of energy and vitality. It stimulates the sacral chakra and is believed to intensify creativity in all its forms. Like all red stones, it is not recommended for angry or authoritarian people.

Cleansing and recharging

Cleansing:

Tourmaline can be purified by running it under water for a few minutes. To preserve the jewelry setting, we recommend fumigation with a palo santo stick or white sage. Burn the palo santo or sage and pass your jewelry over the smoke produced. Remember to ventilate the room well after fumigation.

Recharging:

Tourmaline can be recharged in the sun or by placing it in a quartz geode, on a quartz cluster, or an amethyst druse. You can also use a flower of life plate.
