Origin and geological formation

Sandstone is a sedimentary rock made mainly of sand grains, naturally cemented by silica, limestone, or sometimes clay. In the United States, it is found across vast iconic regions such as Arizona, Utah, Colorado, and New Mexico, where it forms the famous landscapes of the Grand Canyon and colorful plateaus.
It formed millions of years ago, when sandy deposits from the erosion of mountains and rivers accumulated in successive layers, then were compacted and solidified under pressure. This geological history gives USA sandstone a wide variety of shades—red, ochre, beige, sometimes purplish—due to the presence of iron oxides and other minerals.

In lithotherapy, sandstone is considered a grounding and stabilizing stone.

Purification and recharging:

Purification:

Sandstone can be purified by holding it under running water for a few minutes. You can also purify it by smudging with a palo santo stick or with white sage. Light the palo santo or sage and pass the stone through the smoke. Don’t forget to air out the room well after smudging.

Recharging:

Sandstone can be recharged by placing it in gentle sunlight (morning or evening) or on a quartz cluster.
