Care instructions: Avoid direct, prolonged exposure to sunlight. If dirt or dust has become embedded, the rock crystal can be cleaned with lukewarm water and wiped with a soft cloth.

The “worry stone”, or anti-stress stone, is your best ally against anxiety. Hold the stone between your index finger and thumb and gently move your thumb back and forth. This motion will help you calm down and manage your stress. You can take it to the office, bring it with you anywhere, and pull it out of your pocket or bag whenever you feel the need.

In Antiquity, the Greeks wore sunstone as a bracelet or pendant to attract luck and prosperity.

In Viking legends, sunstone was revered. It was said that those who wore a sunstone would reach Valhalla.

Sunstone is also said to have helped the Vikings navigate at sea. It supposedly made it possible to locate the sun in cloudy weather or when there was fog.

It has a specific optical property called birefringence. All the light passing through the stone is split into two, a bit like prisms that break down color.

Despite this optical property, it is difficult to physically verify its use for navigation. Researchers ran thousands of computer simulations in which mathematical algorithms play the role of Viking ships. The simulation assumes overcast weather and the use of sunstone. In 92 to 100% of cases, crews reach their destination by using the sunstone every three hours to get their bearings.

Sunstone symbolizes joie de vivre and optimism. It spreads good vibes and cheerfulness, and boosts vital energy. It’s the stone of action—ideal if you tend to procrastinate.

Purification and recharging

Cleansing:

Sunstone can be cleansed by soaking it for a few hours in demineralized water. No salt. You can also cleanse it by smudging with a palo santo stick or white sage. Light the palo santo or sage and pass the stone through the smoke. Don’t forget to air out the room well after smudging.

Recharging:

Sunstone recharges in sunlight. You can leave it for a few hours in a room filled with light.

It can also be placed in a quartz geode, on a quartz cluster or an amethyst druse.
