Well-being
In antiquity, Greeks and Romans believed amethyst helped resist intoxication. In Greek mythology, Dionysus, the god of wine, ardently pursued a young woman named Amethystos. She rejected his advances and sought help from the goddess Artemis. To protect her, Artemis transformed her into a white stone. Dionysus, disappointed and offended, poured wine over the stone, which then turned purple.
In the Middle Ages, amethyst acquired a strong spiritual dimension. It became a symbol of faith and devotion. Bishops and cardinals often wore rings or signet rings adorned with amethysts. The stone’s purple color represented the ultimate sacrifice of Christ.
Amethyst symbolizes protection and balance. It helps dissipate anxiety and anger, regulate stress, and master emotions.
It is an excellent stone for combating insomnia. A tumbled stone is usually placed under the pillow or near the bed.
Spiritually, amethyst is the stone of wisdom and humility. It promotes concentration, meditation, and spiritual elevation. It stimulates the creative process, imagination, and clarity of mind.
Purification and recharging:
Cleansing:
Amethyst can be purified by soaking it in water for a few minutes.
However, to preserve the ring’s silver setting, it is preferable to purify it by fumigation with a palo santo stick or white sage. Burn the palo santo or sage and pass your jewelry through the smoke. Remember to ventilate the room well after fumigation.
Recharging:
Amethyst can be recharged by placing it in moonlight for a few hours. It can also be placed in a quartz geode or on a quartz cluster (druzy). Warning! It’s not recommended to expose amethyst to the sun for long periods. Amethyst is sensitive to strong light and intense heat, which can alter the stone’s color.
Caution! Lithotherapy is not scientifically recognized. It should under no circumstances replace medical treatment and follow-up.
