Diamond is a crystallized form of pure carbon, formed at extreme depths (150 to 200 km below the Earth’s surface) under very high pressure and temperature conditions. It rises to the surface during rare volcanic eruptions, via pipes called kimberlites.

The main natural diamond deposits are currently found in South Africa, Botswana, Russia, Canada, Australia, and also Brazil, which played a key role in its historical exploitation.

🌍 Antiquity

Diamonds were known in India as early as the 4th century BCE. They were considered sacred talismans, bearers of power, invincibility, and spiritual protection.

🏛️ Ancient Rome & Greece

Among the Greeks, diamond was called adamas, meaning “unconquerable.” It was believed to be a star fragment or tears of the gods. Romans, for their part, used it as an amulet of power.

🤴 Middle Ages & Renaissance

Very rare in Europe until the 15th century, diamonds became a symbol of nobility, fidelity, and power. They were reserved for sovereigns and the elite.

💍 Modern Era

With the discovery of new deposits in South Africa in the 19th century, diamonds became more accessible. They established themselves as the stone of eternal love, notably thanks to the engagement ring, made famous by 20th-century marketing.

Purification and recharging:

Purification

Diamond can be purified by rinsing it under water for a few minutes. However, to preserve the elastic thread of the necklace, we recommend fumigation with a palo santo stick or with white sage. Burn the palo santo or sage and pass your jewelry through the smoke. Remember to ventilate the room well after fumigation.

Recharging:

Diamond can be recharged by placing it in the sun for a few hours.

It can also be placed in a crystal geode or on a selenite plate.
