Purpurite is a stone little known to the general public, but highly valued by collectors and mineral lovers for its intense and velvety violet color. Its name comes from the Latin purpura, referring to the natural purple hue that characterizes it.

Purpurite is a secondary mineral resulting from the natural alteration of triphylite, a lithium, iron, and manganese phosphate. This oxidation process gives it its shade ranging from deep violet to reddish purple, sometimes mixed with black or brown highlights depending on the inclusions.

This rare mineral is generally found in granitic or pegmatitic deposits, in phosphate-rich geological zones.
