In the Middle Ages, opal was nicknamed the “eye stone” and was traditionally associated with eye well-being.

Today, opal is often associated with ideas of protection and happiness in different traditions.

It’s also associated with calm and soothing. Its energy is often described as gentle, inviting you to let go and take a step back from tension.

Opal is sometimes presented as supporting self-awareness, exploring emotions, and clarifying desires. It’s also traditionally associated with improved sleep.

In lithotherapy, the presence of water in opal is symbolically associated with the flow of energies and the release of certain blockages.

According to these beliefs, opal is also said to be sensitive to its environment and can be influenced by the energies around it.

🔹 Opal varieties

Blue opal:
Traditionally associated with reflection and creativity, especially among artists. It’s also linked to spontaneity and self-expression.

Pink opal:
Often associated with emotional softness, inner balance, and soothing feelings of stress or melancholy.

Black opal:
Historically linked to divination practices, it’s associated with dreams, intuition, and symbolic perception. Adorned with red, green, blue, and yellow iridescence, it’s also linked to depth and meditation.

Precious opal:
Symbolically linked to personal growth and inner harmony, it’s often associated with overall balance.

White opal:
Associated with purity, sincerity of feelings, and faithfulness.

🔮 Cleansing and recharging:

Purification:

Opal can be cleansed by smoke cleansing with a palo santo stick or white sage. Light the palo santo or sage and pass the stone through the smoke. Don’t forget to air out the room well after smoke cleansing.

Recharging:

Opal can be recharged by placing it on a flower of life plate.
