Larvikite comes from the town of “Larvik” in Norway, where its main deposits are located. The formation process of larvikite takes millions of years.

Larvikite is a magmatic rock of the monzonite type. It forms at a depth of about 30km and crystallizes near the surface in sub-volcanic zones. It’s a relatively hard rock, which explains its versatile use, both for decorative purposes and as a building material. The presence of labradorite feldspar gives it its bluish/silvery gray iridescence. The colors appear to change and shimmer when the stone is viewed from different angles or in different lights: this is called labradorescence.

Purification and recharging:

Cleansing:

Larvikite can be cleansed by soaking it in water for a few minutes. However, to preserve the elastic of bracelets/jewelry setting, we recommend smudging with a palo santo stick or with white sage instead. Burn the palo santo or sage and pass your jewelry through the smoke released. Don’t forget to ventilate the room well after smudging.

Recharging:

Larvikite can be recharged by placing it in the sun for a few hours, preferably when the rays are less strong.

Larvikite can also be placed in a quartz geode, on a quartz cluster or an amethyst druse.
