Origin and formation of printed jasper

Printed jasper, also called polychrome jasper, is a silica-rich variety of jasper from the large family of microcrystalline quartz. It owes its distinctive patterns to the presence of clay, iron, or manganese impurities, which settled over time in the stone as it formed. Ancient writings mention jasper, but the different names were assigned fairly recently. Polychrome jasper was discovered in Madagascar in 2006.

Deposits of printed jasper are found mainly in Mexico, the United States, Brazil, and sometimes Madagascar. Each piece is unique, almost like a canvas painted by nature itself.

Printed jasper is often associated with ancestral wisdom, inner journeys, and the protection of the elders. It’s a stone widely used in shamanic or meditative rituals.

Purification and recharging:

Cleansing:

Printed jasper can be purified by soaking it in water for a few minutes. It can also be purified by smudging with a stick of palo santo or white sage. Light the palo santo or sage and pass the jasper through the smoke. Don’t forget to air out the room well after smudging.

Recharging:

Jasper can be recharged in gentle sunlight or moonlight. It can also be placed in a quartz geode or on a quartz cluster (druse).
