Gobi agate fascinates with its astonishing natural forms and warm hues, ranging from sandy brown to deep red, sometimes punctuated by translucent patterns. Polished by wind and time, it evokes the arid and mysterious landscapes of the desert from which it originates.

Gobi agate, like all agates, belongs to the chalcedony family, a microcrystalline variety of quartz. However, it stands out for its often matte to satiny appearance, a result of natural erosion in extreme desert conditions. Unlike other more banded agates, it frequently presents rounded forms, sometimes sculpted by sand and wind, as well as subtle internal patterns, or even unique inclusions.
Its hardness on the Mohs scale is between 6.5 and 7, making it a solid, resistant, and durable stone.

Discovery and Geographical Origins

Gobi agate primarily comes from the Gobi Desert, a vast arid region stretching between Mongolia and China. It is in this extreme environment that these stones form and evolve over millions of years, before being slowly brought to light by natural erosion.

Unlike other stones directly extracted from deposits, Gobi agates are often collected from the surface of the ground, after being shaped by the elements. This particularity makes them unique stones, each bearing the traces of time and the desert climate.

Used for centuries by the nomadic peoples of Mongolia, these agates were considered protective talismans. They often accompanied travelers across the vast desert expanses, symbolizing endurance, protection, and connection to the Earth.

Purification and recharging

Purification:
Gobi agate can be purified by rinsing it under clear water for a few minutes.
It can also be purified by fumigation with palo santo or white sage. Simply pass the stone through the smoke, then air out the room.

Recharging:
This stone can be recharged in natural light, ideally soft (morning or late afternoon). Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight to preserve its natural shades.
It can also be placed in a quartz geode or a selenite plate to regain its full energy.
