💗 Thulite – Stone of compassion, expression and inner renewal

➤ Origin & deposits

Discovered in 1820 in Sauland in the Telemark region of Norway, thulite takes its name from the mythical island of Thule, mentioned as early as Antiquity as the northern end of the world. It is a variety of zoisite enriched with manganese, which gives it its beautiful shades from pink to vivid purple.

It is found mainly in Norway, but also sometimes in Australia, Brazil, Namibia, the United States, Portugal and more rarely in France.

➤ Formation & geology

Thulite forms in pegmatites or fractures in metamorphic rocks, resulting from the alteration of triphylite. Its intense pink-red hue, sometimes marbled with white, comes from manganese inclusions.

The name “thulite” refers to the island of Thule, described by the Greek navigator Pytheas (-330 BC) as the farthest place in the North — a symbol of mystery, distant horizons, and renewal.

Though rarely featured in mythological tales, thulite carries the soul of Nordic landscapes: a stone born from the silence of mountains and icy lands, warming the heart like a soft light in winter. It embodies the link between inner strength and sincere expression, inviting you to speak from the heart and love with clarity.

According to some oral traditions, thulite was prized by the ancient Vikings, who saw it as a stone of courage, inner strength and protection. It was worn as an amulet during sea voyages or battles, to protect the warrior from physical dangers as well as inner doubts. A symbol of determination and clarity of mind, it accompanied Nordic travelers in their quest for unknown lands, while strengthening their bond to home and true speech.

• Thulite can be cleansed by smoke cleansing with a palo santo stick or with white sage. Light the palo santo or sage and pass your jewelry or stone through the smoke. Don’t forget to air out the room well after smoke cleansing.

• Avoid immersing it in water due to its fragility

🔸 Recharging

• In indirect moonlight, for a few hours
• In morning light or indirect light (a light-filled room)
• In a quartz geode or on a selenite plate
• With a gentle massage, thulite also recharges through contact with kind emotions
