Kunzite is a gem variety of spodumene discovered in the early 20th century and named in honor of the famous American mineralogist George Frederick Kunz, gemologist at Tiffany & Co. Its delicate pink to lilac hues, sometimes slightly violet, are due to the presence of manganese in its composition.

The main kunzite deposits are found in Brazil, Madagascar, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and the United States. Some stones display beautiful transparency while others reveal natural veils or inclusions that attest to their authenticity.

In gemology, kunzite is appreciated for its vitreous luster and soft colors. It is a relatively sensitive stone to prolonged exposure to intense light, which can gradually alter its color. It is therefore advisable to store kunzite jewelry away from direct sunlight when not being worn.

In traditions related to stones and well-being, kunzite is often associated with gentleness, emotional soothing, and inner serenity. It is said to symbolize tenderness, emotional harmony, and positive emotions. It is also frequently connected to the heart chakra, the symbolic center of feelings and human relationships.

Purification and recharging

Cleansing:

Kunzite can be purified by running it under water. To preserve the jewelry setting, we recommend fumigation with a palo santo stick or white sage instead. Burn the palo santo or sage and pass your stone/jewelry through the smoke released. Remember to ventilate the room well after fumigation.

Recharging:

Kunzite can be recharged in moonlight.

It can also be placed in a quartz geode, on a selenite plate, or an amethyst cluster.
